Anise Seeds
Anise seed is native to the eastern Mediterranean region and has been used since ancient times.
Anise is very aromatic and sweet, distinguished by its licorice-like flavor. Used to flavor Turkish Raki, Arab Arak, Greek Ouzo, Italian Sambuca etc.
Production Area
In Turkey most of the Aniseed cultivation takes places in Aegean and Mediterranean regions. Izmir, Antalya, Burdur and Denizli cities have the highest production of anise.
Total Crop Size
Turkey has an average crop size of 20.000 tones/year.
Production Period
Usually aniseed is planted during April or May. After 4 months later (end of July) aniseeds are ready for the harvest.
